The Inside Story: The city of Dundee and the county of Angus on Scotland's East Coast are remarkable places, full of incredible people and amazing things to see and do. But these areas don't just have cultural and historical significance - over the decades, they've been highly sought after by film-makers too. The intention of this book was to celebrate Tayside’s starring role in film and television history, exploring some of the best-known - and most obscure - features to showcase the region. This book was another collaboration between myself and my sister, Julie Christie, and was intended to explore as many different genres of cinema and TV feature as possible which had been filmed in the area. Along with Dundee itself, the book considered films and TV series filmed in towns as varied as Carnoustie, Montrose, Arbroath, Forfar, and Brechin. Everything from sporting documentaries to independent dramas have been included, along with music videos and TV commercials. We really do hope that the book will encourage people to visit Dundee and the surrounding area, whether for the first time or for a welcome return journey. Many of the city's favourite venues are featured, including the Caird Hall, Verdant Works, McManus Museum and Art Gallery, the V&A Dundee, RRS Discovery, and Dundee Airport. Lights, Camera, Dundee! celebrates all that's vibrant and positive about the famous City of Discovery and the beautiful Angus region, and their story on celluloid is still only just beginning - with new investments in film technology in Dundee, the area is set to become an even more popular destination for filming in the future. |
